Description

A topographic survey was undertaken by Headland Archaeology in 2004 on the site of a low, irregular stony mound in Balblair Wood that had previously been identified (see EHG104) as the possible remains of a chambered cairn. The scope of the work was to remove all obscuring vegetation from an area of some 118 sq m to permit a re-survey to better reveal the true form of the structure and to inform any future excavation. The study area was photographed before and after the removal of the vegetation and the area was then surveyed using a total station. <1> This and subsequent work on the site hads been published. <2>
