Description

An archaeological evaluation consisting of a desk-based assessment, walkover survey, and 13% trial trenching, was carried out by Highland Archaeology Services Ltd in 2007 as part of a condition on a planning application on the proposed site of a new house. The objective of the evaluation was to determine the nature and extent of any buried archaeology likely to be affected by the construction work, and record and preserve these where necessary. The surrounding area is rich in Bronze and Iron Age archaeology, and so this course of action was considered pertinent. Five trenches, ranging from 36m to 4m long and 4m to 1.5m wide, were dug, and excavation was conducted by a mechanical digger with a 1.5m straight-edge bucket, supervised by the archaeologist. No archaeologically significant features or finds were identified during excavation. <1>
