Description

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Headland Archaeology in 2004 on the remains of a putative chambered cairn located on the crest of a fluvio-glacial terrace within a coniferous woodland plantation at Balblair. In order to resolve the nature of the feature, targeted excavation was carried out on the south-west quadrant of the visible extent of the site. The excavation identified features associated with the original cairn as well as a substantial slab-lined cist which was initially not excavated and re-covered. <1> This and subsequent work has been formally published in PSAS. <2>
