Description
A palaeoecological assessment of 16 pollen samples was carried out by CFA Archaeology in October 2005 at the location of the proposed development site of Farr Wind Farm, Inverness. The results, in part, displayed evidence potentially reinforcing the decline of Elm in c.3,300 - 2,950 cal yrs BC generally believed to have been brought about by Duch Elm disease. There was little indication of later prehistoric clearance of Birch / Hazel woodland at or near the site. The presence of hemp pollen may suggest local activity. The charcoal record may also indicate human activity. The presence of sphagnum throughout the core profile suggested relatively wet conditions throughout. <1>
