Description

The National Trust for Scotland commissioned Martin Wildgoose to carry out the archaeological excavations of the Farm Steading and Mill complex at Balmacara Square. The archaeological excavation of the steading at Balmacara Square was discussed, and the positions of the trenches worked out, with Robin Turner, the NTS Archaeologist, prior to the commencement of the work. Each trench was designed to answer a specific question regarding sequence of construction, dating, existence of earlier floors, etc. The fieldwork was carried out over 24 days, commencing on the 12th August 1998. A total of 26 trenches were excavated during fieldwork. <1>
