Description
GUARD were contracted by Highland Regional Council to carry out an archaeological assessment of the peat moss at North Ballachulish, Highland Region. This work was carried out in November 1993. The main objective of this exercise was to assess the potential for archaeological survival of both organic and inorganic materials. Such an assessment was to be achieved through non-destructive means. Another important component of the exercise was to extract sample cores, using a Russian corer, in order to gain an insight into the environmental history of the area. These cores may also provide a radiocarbon dated sequence for the growth of the peat. This work was to be carried out in conjunction with a surface and sub-surface contour survey, the latter being achieved through the use of probes. <1>
