Description

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken of the site of a proposed landfill at Tollie, near Maryburgh, Highland. Prior to the evaluation Entec UK Ltd had carried out a vultural heritage desk-based assessment and walkover survey of the site. This survey identified seventeen features of possible archaeological significance. Six of these were targeted for further field evaluation. During the field evaluation, forty trenches were excavated totalling an area of 4500m^2. The objectives of this project were: to identify the nature, depth, extnt and significance of any archaeological remains which may exist within the application area; to propose arrangements for the safeguarding, where possible, and recording, where necessary, of any archaeological features or finds identified; to ensure that the needs for archaeological conservation and recording are met without causing any unnecessary delay or disturbance to the development project. <1>
