Description
An archaeological desk-based assessment was carried out by the Centre for Field Archaeology, University of Edinburgh, in September 1994 as part of an environmental assessment for a planned windfarm development at the Hill of Forss, near Thurso, Caithness. The study area covered approximately 10.5 square kilometres and contained 42 sites. One scheduled monument, Thing's Va Broch, was located within the study area, as well as another broch, longhouses, walls an enclosures, other buildings, cairns and cists, burnt mounds, mounds, field systems, rig-and-furrow, a windmill, a mill lead and a circular structure. The area was considered to have a high archaeological potential. Only four of these monuments would directly be impacted by the development which were intended to either be avoided or recorded. <1>
