Description

An archaeological evaluation of a rectilinear stony mound was conducted in the area of an extension to an on-site borrow pit for the Kilbraur windfarm. The evaluation consisted of vegetation clearance followed by the removal of the overlying peat in order to define the full extent and form of the cairn. Two hand-dug trenches were dug representing a 20% sample of the cairn. The excavations revealed the feature to be a simple clearance cairn, associated with other prehistoric features in the vicinity. <1>
