Description

The survey area covers roughly 78 ha of land at Glac Garbh and Meall Mor at the western end of Cona Glen, an east-west running valley on the western shore of Loch Linnhe, Highland. The area is divided into two parts: Glac Garbh situated on the south facing slope of the valley between an existing track and the Cona River; Meall Mor situated on the lower noth facing slopes of the valley. Both areas are covered by wet heath and bog over rocky knolls with peat filled hollows. Recent erosion of deep peat deposits has occurred in some places leaving the rocky subsoil exposed at the surface. The ground conditions for field survey were good with low vegetation over the whole area. The survey area was systematically walked by a team of two archaeologists and all features of archaeological interest were identified and described. <1>
