Description

An archaeological field survey was undertaken in June 1991 by RCAHMS on land belonging to the John Muir Trust. The area embraces considerable tracts of upland terrain, exploited by man at various points in the past, but now largely given over the pasture. In the area lie extensive stretches of well-preserved, yet previously unrecorded, settlement and cultivation remains. The sites identified in the survey mostly range in date from the mid to late 18th century to the 19th century. All sites and monuments up to 1900 were recorded. Buildings in use were omitted. <1>
