Description

A watching brief was undertaken during geological test pitting within two areas of proposed development. This followed a desk based assessment which identified potential for prehistoric and later archaeological remains. Sixteen test pits were dug using a JCB, measuring on average 4m in length and 1.5m in width. Two potential archaeological features were observed in test pits 12 and 14, in the field south of the new primary school. In Test pit 12, a north south orientated potential boundary ditch was observed. In Test pit 14, an oval pit with a charcoal rich fill was discovered and investigated. The pit is possibly prehistoric in date. No further archaeological features were observed in the remaining test pits. <1>
