Description

An archaeological watching brief took place during topsoil removal in advance of the construction of a new house. The topsoil removal revealed a yellow subsoil within which some darker patches were initially visible. On further cleaning, the conclusion was reached that these were natural soil variations with no sign of cuts or deposits. No further investigation was carried out. <1> The photographs supplied with the report show what appear to be patches of burning and possible charcoal deposits. The site was subsequently visited by an HC Archaeologist but the house foundations were already in place and no additional investigation was possible. <2>
