Description

A second monitoring visit took place in July 2009 to record changes in erosion or accretion of marine sediment within the harbour floor. This followed the first monitoring visit in 2008. In 2007 four marker pegs had been placed at strategic locations. The monitoring visits involve measurement of the height of the harbour floor to the top of the peg, mapping the visible extent of the exposed peat, checking the stability of the previously excavated area and the other defined zones. The 2009 monitoring exercise showed a slight accretion of materials overlying the areas of previous excavation, thus protecting the intertidal peat. Continued monitoring is recommended for 2010. <1>
