Description

An archaeological desk-based study and subsequent walk-over survey of an area to the west of Achnaluachrach, near West Langwell, Rogart in East Sutherland, was undertaken in March 2010. The survey was required by Scottish Woodlands Ltd to establish the extent of archaeological remains, which would, in turn, determine the viability of planting trees. The survey area comprises an area of land approximately 110 hectares of gently to moderately sloping hill ground, 0.5km west of the dwelling of Achnaluachrach. It is situated approximately 18km to the north west of the East Sutherland coastal village of Golspie, and is accessed from Achnaluachrach, via a track from the end of the public road The survey resulted in the recording of 14 archaeological features, only one of which had previously been recorded on the HER. <1>
