Description
An archaeological watching brief was carried out in 2008 close to the scheduled broch at Lybster by Highland Archaeology Services Ltd on behalf of Scottish Water Solutions. Trenching for installation of water pipes was monitored to identify and record any buried archaeological evidence disturbed by the work, in close proximity to the scheduled broch at Lybster. The trench was mechanically excavated from north to south. The turf had been removed at the farmer's request from a an area of 12m width running the length of the water-main trench for crop cultivation purposes. The topsoil was only removed to subsoil depth strictly within the line of the water main trench to a width of 0.60m. No archaeological finds or features were recorded. <1>
