Description

Headland Archaeology undertook a series of archaeological investigations in advance of construction of new low level radioactive waste facilities (NLLWF) adjacent to Dounreay, Highlands. The work carried out included a series of evaluation trenches across the development area amounting to 6% of the total area and full hand excavation of Site 36, a small grass covered mound (see EHG3474). The evaluation of 141 trenches across the site resulted in the identification of a single small pit that was thought to be a disturbed cist. A number of linear features were also recorded although these were mostly either natural fault lines or drainage channels. <1>
