Description

An archaeological desk-based assessment and survey was conducted over the site of a proposed hydropower scheme. A brief assessment of maps and aerial photographs highlighted the existence of at least two archaeological features. Field survey, undertaken in difficult conditions, confirmed the existence of these, one a sheepfold, and one an enclosure and quarry, and also discovered a third, a field, high in the western valley. All are probably indicators of 18th and 19th century activity related to both arable and pastoral farming, features that are relatively common in Scotland. Each was recorded and marked by canes, and the development as proposed will not affect them. <1>
