Description
A fourth monitoring visit took place in August 2011 to record changes in erosion or accretion of marine sediment within the harbour floor. This followed the first monitoring visit in 2008. In 2007 four marker pegs had been placed at strategic locations. The monitoring visits involve measurement of the height of the harbour floor to the top of the peg, mapping the visible extent of the exposed peat, checking the stability of the previously excavated area and the other defined zones. A monitoring visit in 2010 had found that the four marker pegs were no longer present and this was confirmed. The monitoring exercise found that the inter-tidal peat is relatively stable except for an area affected by fresh water run-off. The stability has been enhanced in areas by dense growths of seaweed. Continued monitoring is recommended for 2012. <1>
