Description

Geophysical surveys, including resistance and magentometry, were carried out by Geophysical Surveys of Bradford in 1987 in the garden to the south of Kinmylies House prior to proposed redevelopment of the site. The area was thought to be the site of a pre-reformation chapel. In the resistance survey two linear high resistance anomalies were considered to be of a size and strength that may have indicated the lines of walls. However, the orientation (i.e. parallel to the existing formal garden) indicated a more recent origin, perhaps old footpaths. Two bands of low resistance may have indicated the presence of ditches. Several anomalies were also sown in the results of the magnetometer survey. It was considered that these should all be followed up by excavation. <1>
