Description

A walkover survey was carried out in 2012 by J Harden in advance of the proposed construction of a small hydro-electric scheme on the Neaty Burn in Glen Strathfarrar near Struy. The works would involve the construction of two buildings at the intake and outfall points on the Neaty Burn and a pipeline inbetween the two. The survey was undertaken from the proposed intake down to the proposed outstation. A broad swathe on either side of the proposed pipeline was reviewed, resulting in a search area c100m in width. The proposed sites of the intake and outfall constructs are located beside the Neaty Burn. No archaeological features were recorded at these points. The proposed route of the pipeline would cross the hillside northwest-southeast for c800m from the intake, before turning north-south / south-southwest, down the ridge to the east of a small un-named burn, for c800m to the outfall. A review of a 50m-wide zone on either side of the route failed to record any features of archaeological interest. It was also considered highly unlikely that any buried archaeological deposits exist across this hillside. <1>
