Description

An excavation was carried out in November 2011 by Jon Haylett to investigate a possible shieling hut at Portuairk, Ardnamurchan. A well built paved stone floor was uncovered as well as a selection of objects including: glass, a bucket, two pieces of a leather shoe, a spike driven into the ground, a stone hearth, a china egg used for calming broody hens, a length of steel, cloth and three buttons marked RNYC for the Royal Northern Yacht Club. <1>
