Description

An archaeological desk-based assessment and watching brief was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in late 2010 during excavations for a new dwelling at Harpsdale, Caithness, in response to a planning condition. Unfortunately the contractor had started stripping the previous day before he remembered the watching brief requirement; approximately 10% of the area had been stripped before watching commenced. This area was re-scraped to provide a clean surface and inspected, but nothing of note was visible. The stripping was completed over the following two days. The spoil heaps were examined but were partially obscured by snow. Nothing of archaeological significance was found. <1>
