Description
An archaeological excavation, consisting of four trenches, was carried out in 2007 by Clyne Heritage Society, Shorewatch and volunteers in order to investigate and record the eroding remains of sites facing imminent destruction at Brora Back beach, Clyne. This was the second phase of an ongoing interdisciplinary project focused on the industrial heritage at Brora, particularly that of the salt and coal works. The four trenches targeted structures that were directly at risk from the eroding coastline. Two of these were over buildings associated with the earliest phases of salt production at Brora, the other two were in the area of the later C18 salt works. <1>
Note: The trenches shown on the site plan from this year do not match those shown on that of the following year (see EHG2906). Therefore, it has been presumed that the later edition is accurate and the associated GIS polygons for the 2007 excavations are based on the site plan from the 2008 excavations [MH 01/05/2014].
