Description

An archaeological excavation was carried out in August 2009 as part of an ongoing interdisciplinary project of fieldwork by Clyne Heritage Society, Shorewatch and volunteers to investigate and record the eroding remains of sites facing imminent destruction at Brora Back beach, Clyne. This season aimed to achieve an almost complete excavation of two buildings discovered during previous fieldwork in trench four and trench two where the building had become known as Saltman's house. They also set out to uncover direct evidence of salt production in the form of a waste material known as pan-scratch, which subsequently was discovered in all three trenches. <1>
