Description

Archaeological monitoring by C Dagg and N Lindsay of the mechanical excavation of 27 trial pits and 12 boreholes at the site of a proposed new substation and associated access road at Connagill was carried out in 2012. The work was aimed at ascertaining the nature and depth of underlying glacial deposits and geological strata. The trial pits measured approximately 2.5-3m x 0.6-0.7m. No archaeological deposits or features were exposed, but the nature, depth and extent of improved soils associated with prehistoric cultivation was noted. <1>
