Description
A desk-based assessment and walkover survey was carried out by C Dagg in 2012 along the route of the proposed Allt na Moine hydro scheme on the Applecross peninsula. The work was undertaken on behalf of Ash Consulting and Assessment. The proposal would be a run-of-river hydroelectric scheme and would comprise the construction of the following: two intakes, one on the Allt na Mòine and one on the Allt na h-Eirigh; a powerhouse; two buried pipes to convey water from the Allt na h- Eirigh intake to Lochan Dubh and from the Allt na Mòine intake to the powerhouse; an outfall structure on Lochan Dubh; a short tailrace to discharge water back into the Allt na Mòine; and the construction of a number of sections of new track for permanent access to the intakes. It was judged that a small number of minor archaeological features of local interest would be partially damaged during construction. These features dated to the post-medieval period and were either boundary dykes or paths, linear features the greater part of which would remain intact. The level of damage was considered acceptable and no mitigation was recommended. <1>
