Description

A DBA and walk-over survey was carried out by CFA Archaeology Ltd in October 2008 to inform an environmental statement to support a planning application for a proposed extension to Forss Wind Farm near Dounreay, Caithness. Whilst no new sites were identified during the survey, the archaeological potential for the area was considered as high as there are several prehistoric sites in proximity to the development. The wind farm layout was designed to avoid known archaeological sites and feature as far as possible. Both Green Tulloch broch and St Marys Chapel were considered to be at risk of impact from the development although mitigation would potentially decrease these levels to an acceptable level. <1>
