Description
A desk based assessment and rapid walkover survey was carried out by CFA Archaeology in 2008 along a 400m wide corridor of a new proposed layout for the grid-connector cable route of the proposed Dunmaglass Wind Farm. The rest of the proposed wind farm would be set out as in the original submission. Thirty sites of cultural heritage significance were identified either partly or wholly within the corridor including: townships, farmsteads and individual buildings of medieval or later rural settlement as well as hut-circles and field systems of earlier, prehistoric date. Two SAMs were identified in proximity to the route. None of effects of the redesigned route were considered to be significant. No detailed field survey of individual sites was carried out. However, it was proposed that a detailed survey would be undertaken where the grid route crossed or passed close to identified sites in order to facilitate micro-routing of the grid connector around the maximum identifiable extent of sensitive sites. <1>
