Description

A trial trench was excavated by Headland Archaeology in December 2013 along the side of an access route to Corriegarth Wind Farm Loch Mhor. It was excavated in the verge between the tarmac and the fence along the western side of the existing road to check that the cairnfield, located to the west, did not extend into the area of direct disturbance created as a result of highway widening works. The trench was 18.5m long and 1.5m in width. A geological deposit of brown gravel was exposed, overlain by topsoil and turf 0.15m to 0.2m deep. No archaeological features were exposed within the trench. <1>
