Description

Archaeological desk-based and walkover surveys were carried out by Highland Archaeology Services in 2012 to inform plans for construction of wind turbine at Glen Vidigill, Isle of Skye. Several important archaeological sites were noted in the vicinity and one significant area was likely to be affected by the proposed works. Recommendations included re-siting a borrow pit, recording a stone dyke where cut by the development, and a precautionary watching brief. <1> Following a revision to the proposed access road line a rapid desk-based examination was undertaken in January 2013 to check whether this might affect features of cultural heritage significance. The new route was to run through an area dominated by former channels of the Vidigill Burn, and the potential for surviving buried archaeological evidence appeared low. Cultural heritage concerns seemed unlikely to arise in this area, and there were no recommendations for further archaeological fieldwork. <2>
