Description
Continued excavations were carried out by Field Archaeology Specialists (FAS) at Castle Sinclair Girnigoe in June-July 2010. These involved excavation around the south entrance and revealed the continuation of features encountered in 2009. The excavation of the area immediately within the south entrance allowed the definition of middens relating to the occupation of the of the castle by Cromwellian troops. The middens partially overlay a slate floor and these deposits were left in situ. Rubble collapse deposits overlay this horizon. Fragments of stone, window glass and lead cames were recovered from the collapse deposits. <1>
Note: A full report on the 2010 excavations (as of 25/03/2015) has yet to be produced.
