Description
A programme of demarcation and watching brief was conducted by CFA Archaeology in 2013 during the excavation of cable dip trenches for the Etteridge to Boat of Garten Electricity Rationalisation – New Overhead Line Southern Section (Etteridge to Ruthven). The Section 1 cable dip trench was located near Ruthven at NGR NN 75929 99072, between Pole 288 and tower structure 177, for the installation of a single circuit of 33kV cable. The cable dip trench was c.350m long by 0.8m wide by 1.3m deep. A separate wayleave was stripped of topsoil to an approximate depth of 0.3m and which measured 4m wide. Modern field boundaries were encountered and where sections of these had to be cut through these were monitored and recorded appropriately. The Section 7 cable dip trench was located at Glentruim at NGR NN 68977 93720, between new 11kV Pole 25 and existing 11kV Pole 24, for the installation of a single circuit of 11kV cable. The cable dip trench was c.120m long by 0.8m wide by 1.2m deep. No finds, deposits or features of archaeological significance were recorded. Features were avoided during the work, leaving them preserved in situ. A number of existing field boundary walls were recorded in section. <1>
