Description
A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by S Farrell on phases 1 to 5 of a proposed new housing development at Lochloy, Nairn in 2000-2001. This was undertaken following a geophysical survey of the area (see EHG707). Thirty-two trenches were mechanically excavated in relation to anomalies recorded during the geophysical survey. A number of archaeological features were exposed and recorded. These ranged from pits, postholes and ditches to a Bronze Age cist burial and the remains of a post-medieval farmhouse. It was also noted that all areas, particularly the area around the former farmstead, had seen heavy ploughing, which was evident in the scarring of the natural and the finds of galss and modern glazed pottery throughout the topsoil and subsoil. <1>
