Description
Archaeological trail trenching in the form of a watching brief was carried out by J Hooper in August 2001 in advance of a proposed windfarm at Buolfruich, Houstry. A total of fifteen trenches were opened. All were dug with a JCB and concentrated in three main locations within the development area. The first area was immediately to the north of Buolfruich's head-dyke and extending up the hill until deeper peat was reached. A second series of trenches was dug along the line of the access road running across the fields to the north of the farm and steading. Finally, two trenches were dug across the position of the construction area to the east of the farm buildings. The majority of the trenches measured 10m x 3m. The trenches confirmed the nature of the features visble on the surface but added no new archaeological sites to those already identified. <1>
