Description
The Glenmeanie WGS survey area covers 13 ha of land at the settlement of Glenmeanie in Strathconon where Glen Meinich joins the strath. The survey area contains a rocky ridge with a steep north-facing slope down to the Allt Gleann Meinich which marks the northern limit of the area. The lower ground and the sides of the ridge are generally poorly drained heath and bog with drier rocky knolls rising out of it, particularly on the ridge top. There is some better drained land along the river bank which has a dense cover of bracken. The land is currently used as rough pasture for sheep. The survey area was systematically walked by a team of two archaeologists and all features of archaeological interest were identified and described. The archaeological features were located by reference to mapped reference points. The ground conditions for field survey were generally good with low vegetation except in areas of bracken. <1>
