Site Event/Activity record EHG649 - Evaluation - Farraline Park, Inverness

A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by S Farrell in 2002 in advance of the proposed redevelopment of Farraline Bus Station, Inverness. A total of 6 trenches totalling 83.6m² were machine excavated and hand cleaned, representing 3% of the development area. The trenches were limited partially due to the need for continued access for the bus station to be available and the services that were encountered. The area under investigation was covered heavily with tarmac with a base of reinforced concrete. Trial trenching was limited to stances and open ground where accessible. Overall the features revealed relate to the area being used as a school playground in the C19, especially the cinder-ash layer. No archaeological deposits or features of interest were revealed during the course of the investigation. <1>
