Description
An open area excavation was carried out by S Farrell in 2002 on the site of a previous area of trial trenching (see EHG632) at Lochloy, Nairn, in advance of a proposed housing development. An area of 250m² (50m x 50m) was stripped focussing on the area of the slots in Trench 4 and to the east towards Trench 6 where a number of possible features had been located. The area was seen to have been subject to heavy ploughing and a number of features probably related to a more recent agricultural landscape, including fence post holes and evidence for hedge lines and trees. A number of features of interest were revealed including a group of hearth-like structures and a number of pits. Possible evidence for occupation in the Bronze or Iron Age was recovered from several pits. <1>
