Description
A DBA and walk over survey was carried out by C Dagg in February 2003 in advance of a proposed windfarm development at South Shebster, Caithness. Although the proposed site was rich in archaeology of several periods, including two preserved landscapes, it was suggested that the wind farm would not neccesarily have a negatiev impact on the sites. The careful setting of the turbines and associated works would minimise damage and the impact on the surviving archaeological landscape. It was suggested that this development would prevent other, more damaging land use such a forestry development scheme, at the site and therefore be a preferential option for the management of the archaeology. A heritage trail was suggested at the site, however, this would need further future consideration in terms of interpretation and safety both for the archaeology and the visitors. <1>
Additional information on the proposed wind farm development can be sourced in the attached environmental statement document. <2>
