(NC 6012 3469 ) Hut Circle (NR)
OS 6"map, (1963)
A hut-circle found during field investigation.
Visited by OS (J L D) 13 May 1961.
Situated on a W-facing slope above Loch Naver, this hut circle measures 8.5m in diameter within a bare stone wall faced internally with near contiguous slabs on edge backed by rubble. The wall 0.3m high is generally 1.5m wide enlarging to 3.2m at the entrance in the W. It expands in the E to form a roughly rectangular annexe 10.5m by 4.0m internally. No external entrance to the annexe was seen. An arc of single stones springs from the wall in the NE, and extends for 8.0m, with a maximum height of 0.6m, before petering out. Associated cultivation is limited to one or two clearance heaps, and short stretches of wasted walls. Generally this hut shows a marked similarity to the 'keyhole' shaped huts at NC 91 18 (See NC91NW 6).
Revised at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (J B) 28 March 1977.
