Full Description
Ruidhean Riabhach (NAT) OS 6"map, (1968)
A crofting township abandoned in 18/19th century. Remains include a head dyke or bank, a dozen or more building footings including two long-houses, a number of ruinous enclosures, some attached to buildings, others individual; three corn-drying kilns, and some tumbled field walls. Strip cultivation is evident. A post-clearance sheepfold and wall occupy the centre of the township.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (JM) 13 May 1981.
A township comprising eight unroofed buildings, eight enclosures, some field walls and a head-dyke, is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheet lxxxvii). Nineteen unroofed buildings, six enclosures, some field walls and a head-dyke are shown on current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1963).
