Monument record MHG10286 - Upper Caen Burn

On N edge of steep Caen Burn gully, is a well-preserved heather-covered hut circle,set into the slope and built up on the down slope. It measures 10m in diameter internally, with the inner face visible intermittently especially in the N. The bank spread to 2.5m in the NW widens to a spread of 5m at E side of the entrance in hut's S arc. The entrance has a number of portal slabs in situ; others have become displaced, with a large one blocking the entrance.
A small annexe abuts hut's NE arc. It measures internally some 5m NE-SW by 4.5m. The wall is of smaller proportions than the hut, with an average spread of 2.5m. There is not visible access from the hut to the annexe. An indefinite gap where the eastern wall of the annexe abuts hut may be the entrance of the annexe.
Apart from a lynchet just to W of the hut there are no traces of contemporary cultivation in the area, although the ground is of a smooth, stone-free nature.
