Full Description
NC60NW 64 639 062.
Braigh nan Allt: a farmstead of presumably early modern origins, but from the remains possibly reconstructed and reoccupied in post-Clearance times. It comprises a longhouse, 13m by 4m and up to 1m high, built of large blocks. A low extension of 5m occurs at one end suggesting the earlier phase. The structure 170m to the W is likewise upstanding, measuring 9m by 3.5m by 1m high. The area is largely enclosed by the head dyke with remains of strip cultivation within.
Visited by OS (JB) 9 December 1980.
A farmstead, comprising two unroofed buildings and an enclosure, and a head-dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheet xcv), and are also shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1992).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 20 November 1995.
