Full Description

NC73SE 16 783 307.

Centred on NC 783 307, along the lower slopes of a north- facing hillside, are numerous peat-covered mounds, extending sporadically over about twenty hectares. Some are apparently natural but others, spaced at closest 15-20.0m apart, adopt a roughly regular pattern of distribution, and in many a stony content is revealed; the ground affected is generally heather-cropped and smooth in appearance and stone-free. That many of the mounds are field clearance heaps of hut-circle association seems fairly obvious but no huts were noted.
Visited by OS (J M) 17 February 1977.
