NC76SE 7 7990 6266.

At NC 7990 6266, at the base of a knoll occupied by a broch (NC76SE 3), is a homestead comprising two compartments. The north chamber is sub-oval 7.0m E-W by 5.5m N-S, the other, abutting on the south side at a slightly higher level, is sub-rectangular with rounded ends, 9.6m E-W by 3.2m N-S. They appear as a cohesive unit being similar in construction and state of preservation, with tumbled walls spread to an average width of 1.6m. and surviving to 0.5m. high. The inner face of large stones on edge is visible intermittently, retaining a rubble core. There are lowerings in the wall of the south compartment in the west and north-east sides inferring entrances; no such gaps occur in the north chamber.
The mode of construction, ie. thick double wall with rubble infill, is similar to that of the well-preserved hut circle some 220.0m to the south. (NC76SE 4) suggesting contemporaneity. There is no trace of associated cultivation.

This site is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet x) as an unroofed structure, probably an enclosure. On the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1963) the site similarly appears as an unroofed structure.
