OS 6"map, (1964)
Eight enclosures or hut circles were discovered during field investigation.
Visited by OS (J L D) 5 May 1960.
At NC 733 537, on a tract of moorland, is a settlement of eight heather-covered hut circles (A-H) and a minor field system. Huts A, C, E and G are oval, varying from 7.0m by 5.5m to 11.5m by 9m internally; the remainder are circular, from 6.5m to 11m internal diameter. The walls are spread to a width of 2.-2.5m, but in huts E, F and G, they expand to 3-3.5m at either side of the entrances; the average height is 0.3m. The entrance to each hut is in the south arc; this, in the oval examples, is on the larger axis.
The field system is limited to about twenty stone clearance heaps, spaced 10.0m - 15.0m apart and a sinuous bank, all just to the south of huts A and B. The only measurable field plot lies adjacent to Hut H, it measures 30.0m by 16.0m and is enclosed by a low bank.
Re-surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (N K B) 4 August 1978.
