Full Description

Centred NC 754 148. A settlement of three hut circles ('A': NC 7547 1491, 'B': NC 7544 1479, 'C': 7536 1492) was found during field investigation on a NW-facing slope. They measure between 5.5m and 6.5m internal diameter within a wall of indeterminate thickness, so overgrown with peat that few stones are visible. The entrance to hut 'B' is from the WNW; the position of the entrances to the other huts is uncertain, probably in the SE arcs. Around the huts are isolated patches of "smooth" ground indicative of former cultivation, but no clearance heaps or fields as such are apparent (but see NC71SE 22).
At NC 7538 1479 are the ruins of a kiln set into a hill-slope and undoubtedly later than the huts.
Surveyed at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (N K B) 1 December 1975.
