OS 6"map, (1963)

Four hut circles discovered during field investigation.
Visited by OS (E G C) 6 June 1961.

Two additional hut circles ('E': NC 94681065 and 'F': NC 9490 1080) were located during fieldwork. Surveyed at 1:2500.
Visited by OS (N K B) 29 February 1968.

A settlement of six oval stone-walled huts and an associated field system situated on the lower SW-facing slope of a hill.
'A' is levelled into the top of a low knoll and measures 8m NW-SE by 7.5m within a wall spread to 3m to 3.5m in which no entrance is visible. 'B' is slightly built-up on a rise and measures 10.5m NW- SE by 9.5m within a wall spread to 3m to 3.5m, with an entrance in the SE. One or two slightly displaced, inner facing stones are visible on the west.
'C' is levelled into a slight slope and measures about 11m NW-SE by 8.5m within a wall spread to a maximum of 2.5m. A large slab flanks the south side of an entrance in the SE, where the wall stands to 0.5m, reducing to 0.2m in the SW.
'D' is set on level ground and measures 11.5m NW-SE by 9m within a wall about 1.2m thick with an entrance on the SE. The wall on the north side of the entrance is much wasted but the opposing side stands to 0.8m.
'E' is levelled into the top of a rise and measures 12.5m NNW-SSE by 11m within a wall spread to 2m in the north and 5m in the west where it stands 0.6m high. An original wall thickness of 1.8m is indicated. No entrance is visible. A curving, terraced area, 4.5m wide and about 14m long with a regular setting of retaining slabs exposed in the downslope, parallels the external west wall of the hut.
'F' is partly built-up on and partly levelled into the slope. It measures 9.5m WNW-ESE by 9m within a wall 1.4m thick in the NW and 3m thick at the entrance in the ESE. Elsewhere the wall is fragmentary. Stone revetting is visible at the base of the hut on the downslope.
The contemporary field system consists of a moderately dense scatter of stone clearance heaps, occasional lynchets and one or two possible field banks. It is most obvious in an area two hectares square centred just west of hut 'C', and in the area NC 951 111. Elsewhere it tends to be obscured by thickets of gorse and intrusion of 18th/19th century abandoned settlement from the south. Occasional cultivation plots averaging 40m by 20m are visible.
The feature published at NC 9484 1088 on the OS 25"map (1969) is a fortuitous setting of stone clearance heaps with some naturally placed boulders; while those at NC 9475 1070 and NC 9467 1062 are the overgrown remains of enclosures of the 18th/19th century abandoned settlement. Huts 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D' revised at 1:10,560.
Huts 'E' and 'F' surveyed at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (J M) 17 February 1976.
