(NC 9686 1128) Two Bronze Age Cists found 1818 (NAT)
OS 25"map, (1971)

(NC 957 107) A cairn at Crakaig, on the farm of Major Clunes, was opened in the spring of 1818. In one of the two separate cists it contained was found a food vessel 7.5 inches high and 6.5 inches maximum diameter. The cairn is stated to have been "not more than two miles from the sea and near the Parliamentary road".
The food vessel is in the Dunrobin Museum.

In Daniell's illustration (Daniell 1821) the headland in the background is at NC 980 115, the building in the middle distance is at NC 9706 1124 and the 'cairn' is a natural glacial knoll at NC 9686 1128, the cists (shown in situ in the illustration with their ends removed) having been inserted into it.
Site surveyed at 1:2500. Visited by OS (R L) 28 February 1968.
