Full Description

At NC 584 091, on a low ridge surrounded by marshy ground, are two hut circles (A and B) and an associated field system.
Hut A is partially overlaid by a recent ruined sheepfold. t measures 10.0m internal diameter within a wall 0.4m high of which both inner and outer facing stones can be seen, giving an estimated thickness of 1.8m. The position of the entrance is uncertain. From the W arc of the hut, a turf-covered bank extends westwards before curving north then east to enclose an area 4.0m in diameter. There appears to be an entrance to it from the hut, and it is almost certainly contemporary. From this enclosure a curving boulder wall extends westward.
Hut B is oval, 10.0m NW-SE by 9.0m internally within a tumbled wall 0.6m high, spread to 2.5m. At the entrance in the SE arc the wall extends outwards and the entrance, with parallel sides, is 5.5m long and about 1.3m wide. No stones remain in situ to indicate the precise nature of this entrance. The field system comprises scattered clearance heaps with some stony lynchets and field walls fringing cultivated areas. Near hut 'B' where the clearance heaps are closer together one or two plots, average size 40.0m by 15.0m can be seen.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (N K B) 13 August 1976.
